Paradox protocol is a game that combines the addictive gameplay of Vampire Survivors, the narrative and world-building of Hades, and the strategic decision-making of Slay the Spire. Genre-wise it's a 2D bullet hell roguelike with a unique sci-fi spin. The game is split into two halves. In one-half of the game, you fight waves of aliens and strategically upgrade your character as the waves get more difficult. In the other half of the game, you play a visual novel where players can discover the universe and learn more about its characters.
I started Paradox Protocol as a personal side project, creating a working gameplay prototype in Unreal Engine over a period of three months. What you are currently watching up above is a gameplay prototype that has been further improved by myself and my brother, Sebastian Wild, in between our full-time jobs. We have now reached the point in development where we are starting work on the design aspects that will make us stand out. Including characters with fully unique gameplay and upgrade trees and the aforementioned visual novel segments that progress the overarching plot.
My team is led by me and my brother. We’re a duo that works in perfect sync, with each of us preferring the roles that the other does not, making us an efficient team. We each have two years of professional work in the industry, but we are lifelong gamers and have been ideating games together since our childhood. From writing games down on scraps of paper, to prototyping ideas together in Unreal Engine. Backing us up is a small team that have worked with me previously on game jams. This includes two artists, both recent graduates from AUArts.
